Saturday Sept 2 weekly vendors Applefied Farm, Balance Rock Farm,Brigham Farm Stand, The Cookie Lady, and Giacomo’s Gourmet Granola were joined by The Compulsive Baker Jennifer’s Handmade Soap was selling their wares, and Jes Barbagallo The Illustraed Ecologist, provided amazing artwork painted on antique dictionary paper! The Maynard Police was manning the Kids Tent allowing them to get up close and personal with the squad car. The Serendipity Music tent featured Janhu followed by Eric Zeller. Open Table volunteers filled Community tent providing information about volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts, info on the new location AND they wer giving out samples of their amazing homemade gazpacho! There was also a sign-up sheet for the Farmer’s Market Apple Pie Contest because if September comes can local apples at the orchards be far behind? You can celebrate those apples with us on September 23 by entering the Maynard Farmers’ Market Apple Pie Baking contest. Entry fee is $5 and for that small fee, you have the opportunity to be acclaimed as a premier pie baker in Maynard. The contest is limited to 20 pies so pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

If you don’t win the best overall pie prize, maybe your crust or filling will be judged best or your pie most beautiful or most creative. And if you don’t win any of the prizes, you’ll still have the delightful experience of making a pie to share with your neighbors because samples of the pies will be available to Market attendees in exchange for a donation with the money raised going to support Open Table. And should you win the best overall award, this year’s prize is a copy of The Apple Lover’s Cookbook by Amy Traverso – a cookbook that was deemed a total success at last October’s Maynard Library Cookbook Club
